Artisan story

Smt. Indubai Maravi – Gond Art Practitioner

Indubai Maravi has been nurturing her passion for the Gond art form since the tender age of 12. Growing up in her village, she crafted her first brush from a simple stick, wrapping cloth around its tip to bring her imagination to life. Using natural colours prepared from earth elements, she adorned the walls of her home during festivals — a tradition that laid the foundation of her artistic journey.

Her deep interest in Gond art inspired her to experiment beyond traditional surfaces, gradually moving to paper and canvas. Relocating to Bhopal, she began participating in various art exhibitions where her talent was recognized and encouraged by government institutions and cultural bodies.

Indubai’s work has been showcased in multiple exhibitions, earning her appreciation from art lovers and experts alike. A significant milestone in her journey came in 2006–2007, when she received the State Award from Mrignayanee, after competing with more than 50 participants.

Today, Indubai Maravi continues to carry forward the rich legacy of Gond painting. Her vision is to not only share the vibrant stories of her community through her art but also inspire future generations of artisans. With continued opportunities and support, she is determined to expand her reach and bring Gond art to a wider global audience.
